It's no secret to anyone. I don't like being pregnant. I throw up the first half of pregnancy and feel huge the second half. There might be a month in the middle where I feel decent. But the cold hard truth is that pregnancy hormones mess with me. I don't enjoy it. So I'm always looking for natural ways to help with the morning sickness. I have never taken prescription drugs to help. The risks associated with those have never outweighed the sickness aspect for us. I have recently stumbled upon some studies that I would like to share for all you mamas out there looking for anything to help you out. Lemon essential oil Women were told to inhale lemon essential oil when they started feeling nauseous. It helped some of them! Please make sure that the oil you use is void of chemicals and as strong as possible. (Not diluted.) There are some great companies out there selling oils. There are also companies not selling great oils. Do your research. Luckily, lemon is one of the cheaper oils. You can expect to pay about $10 for a bottle. Peppermint essential oil Women were told to place four drops of peppermint essential oil in a bowl near the floor of their bed at night. The study says there wasn't a significant difference between the control group and the mint group in the days following. This is true. But there does seem to be a difference in the ladies DURING the time period the oils were used. Either way, it can't hurt! Peppermint is also a cheaper oil. Do NOT apply it topically or ingest it while pregnant. Acupressure Women were told to use the acupressure PC-6 point four times a day. Results showed improvement in the symptoms but not the frequency of vomiting. The older the mother the more likely she was to be experiencing morning sickness! I have always used Sea Bands to help with my morning sickness. I found them in my local Walmart in the pharmacy section. They are usually kept there to help people with sea sickness on cruises. I wear them all. the. time. while pregnant. :) Maybe one of these methods will help you! I like that none of these methods ask you to ingest anything. There seems to be minimal, if any risks involved. I am always a fan of that! *Please note that I am NOT a medical professional and this is in no way medical advice. Please consult your personal health care professional before beginning any treatments. |

Sweet baby Jon, it is almost your first birthday and I am just now sitting down to reflect upon your birth. Your birth was fast and furious and I still haven’t found a chance to sit and reflect on it. During your birthday week I promise to do so. You are our “God baby” sweet boy. We didn’t know we needed you. Thankfully, God did. You have taught me so much about sacrificial love and how Christ loves me. We had only been in Oklahoma for a few months before discovering you were inside of me. I hadn’t planned on needing to find a midwife so quickly in our new state. (God had been fixing that right away as well. Daddy met Ms. Faith’s brother at work in his first month of employment. She was on my radar ever since and the first midwife I looked up after seeing that positive test.) Your pregnancy was very challenging: vomiting, depression, isolation, fatigue, frustration. Your pregnancy was a blessing: learning about nutrition, exercise, teaching Bradley classes, seeing a chiropractor regularly, meeting new friends, feeling you move. I had the privilege to sit down with another childbirth educator and "talk shop". Some of our conversation involved talking about the quick and easy method for natural birth. We have seen it over and over. Couple wants a natural birth. They want to learn about it the easy way (aka cheap and fast). They are shocked that a class costs so much. They don't have enough time before their due date to fit in a full series. "Can't you just cut to the chase, tell me what I need to know?" "Let me have my perfect birth!" This mentality isn't effective.
We did it! My sweet birthin' family and I relocated to Colorado. I will always love the Tulsa, Oklahoma area for giving me my start in childbirth education (and even the pregnancy and birth of my third sweet babe!) but the time came for us to move near family. Our marriage needed investing. Our children needed more of us. Birth Fearless wasn't established well. It made sense to go. So we left. Returning to Castle Rock just over 5 years after leaving it. We left a young married couple and returned with three BOYS and lots of experiences and relationships that shaped and molded us. I do not regret moving. I do not regret coming back.
We have enjoyed cousin time here. It melts my heart to watch my boys all have a cousin to play with. They are quickly becoming best friends. We are already seeing how God can use us here. How he equipped us in the Bible Belt and has brought us back to serve, give, and live. Birth Fearless has a role in that as well. The birth industry in our town of 60,000 people is bright! The new hospital boasts fabulous C-Section rates (less than 15%!!!), well trained staff, and glorious admenties to offer laboring women. I am working on getting word out that I AM HERE! I am offering classes! There aren't many educators here and it's a need! It's thrilling to feel needed. We are almost settled in our new little home. In the next few weeks i hope to be handing out business cards, getting a tour of the hospital, and network building with other local birth professionals. In the meantime, I have new birth videos to watch - a great addition to my classes! It is my intention to blog regularly. Please share! Please tell your friends and remember to Birth Fearless! #birthfearlessCR |
